Bates Leather Cream can be used as a primary or final treatment for leather protection against wear, water, and sweat.
For best results use Bates Leather Cream as a primary treatment then Bates Leather Balsam as a final treatment as described below.
We recommend frequently cleaning your saddle with a soft sponge or cloth and water or saddle soap if needed. Let dry and then apply Bates Leather Cream to condition and replenish the leather.Less frequently say 2 or 3 times a month use Bates Leather Balsam to seal the leather offering moisture retention and protection from water, dirt and sweat.
Leather is a natural product and as such any marks, scars or colour variations within the leather are not a fault and add to the individual character of your saddle.Proper care is crucial to maximising the performance of your saddle as its life is reliant on maintaining a certain level of moisture in the leather.
Apply your leather balsam or cream heavily in high wear areas, such as the top of the saddle flap where the stirrup leathers will rub. You may apply your dressing to all areas of your saddle including the padded inserts and girth/billet straps.Treated in this manner, you will achieve the traditional, rich patina of aged worked leather and can expect years of excellent service from your saddle.
